True kvlt – Styrén, Carson, Trivan, Atomic Spitfire & Fata Morgana

Today, we have a special issue. We’ve received a ridiculous amount of underground submissions. This makes my black heart almost beat. However, some of the work we got is too short to demand a whole article. Hence, we’ve combined them in a format similar to this one. Anyway, have fun digging deep into the evil underground. The rapid-fire session starts now!

Magnus Styrén – Everything: When I asked Magnus what I should review in the link he sent me, his reply was basically “yes”. So, I listened to the handful of tracks that were there. This isn’t my usual cup of tea; it might be too accessible for my deformed sense of beauty. But I want to highlight two things: a) the production is actually professional and sounds like the people who did it knew what they were doing, and b) “The Grind” is an awesome track with a sick solo. The songs are pretty diverse, with influences from Power Metal, Electronic, Folk Metal, and even a bit of Nu-metal (I hope nobody got offended I dropped the Nu-word). I’m honestly curious about what Magnus’ debut will sound like, but for now, click here!

Dan Carson – Inflammable Rage: This one is just a single, but there are a few things to say. First, Dan can make keyboards sound cool in Thrash. Second, he can actually sing well (which is rare in this sub-genre, let’s face it). Third, this has the true kvlt production I expect: raw, unpolished, on a budget. I can’t wait to see what Dan does next. Now, click here!

Trivan – Dark Malicious Desire: I like this single; it’s a mix between MeloDeath and Black Metal. It has interesting ideas, and you can headbang a lot to it. However, be wary that it has true kvlt production. The fast parts get pretty muddy. Either way, I think it’s totally worth the four and a half minutes it demands from you. Click here!

Atomic Spitfire – Two Singles: I’m starting to get concerned about how trendy old-school Swedish Death Metal is getting. However, I do like that Atomic Spitfire sounds like a modern version of Wolverine Blues. It’s not as fast as many bands in the style, but it’s definitely groovy. Plus, that bass sounds so nasty! That’s different for sure. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but guys, if you get a full album out, it sounds professional enough for a proper review in the main section. In the meantime, click here!

Fata Morgana – Fata Morgana: Cool name! But is there anything else to see here? Maybe, but right off the bat, this isn’t my style of Metal. This is for people who love their extreme music with ballads (people who love the ’80s and Power Metal). I might also dare to say the band shines best when the tracks are short. Having said that, if you want to enter a time machine to another era, where you could dance to riffs and didn’t need to have seven diminished chords in the progression, then Fata Morgana has what you need. So, click here!

Tomorrow, there’ll be some albums you’ve submitted and next week, we’ll do some EPs, so sit tight and don’t despair!
