True kvlt – Katharein, Ember’s Ignite, Morgue Terror, Chaos Over Cosmos, Oriska

You know what time it is! It’s that time of the week when we check your submissions and decide whether to be ruthless or merciful, depending on how much nonsense we’ve had to put up with during the rest of the week. As usual, we have a wide range of submissions, from Power Metal to Brutal Death Metal. So, we have something for the whole family. In fact, we’ve signed up your whole family to our socials and blog. We’ll keep them all furious with our poor reviewer judgment, so much so that they’ll leave you in peace for a while. Think about it! Now, to the bands!

KathareinParadise Hunt: This one is only a track, but it’s fun, melodic, and well-produced. Honestly, I’m surprised Katharein isn’t bigger yet. Maybe we just stumbled upon this project before it got rich and famous. Paradise Hunt has all the infectious riffs and song structure to succeed on a Power Metal radio station. Yet it’s not exactly that. It sounds like if you took a 90’s Prog band and removed all the wanking. You decide if that’s good or bad, but it’s fun either way! Click here!

Ember’s IgniteVisions of a Dying World: Ember’s Ignite already got our attention in a previous entry, so I was excited to listen to what else they had to offer. There might not be a particular track that stuck in my head here, but Visions is a substantial upgrade from the previous EP. The production quality is much higher, the music has a much more noticeable identity, and the vocals are clearer. It does everything Ember’s Ignite did before, but bigger and better. When is the album coming? I demand answers! It’s a crime this project doesn’t have more listeners, so I expect you to fix that. You’ve had tons of MeloDeath before, but I’m sure this EP has a few surprises for you. Click here!

Morgue TerrorMorgue Terror: Well, this sounds exactly as it looks: like a freaking bloodbath. It’s just mean and rough old-school Death Metal. The instruments have a Lamb of God feeling, but the vocals are just Defeated Sanity-level grotesque. It’s a disgusting 19-minute assault. I appreciate this EP feeling heavy as a cannonball while keeping a relatively slow tempo (emphasis on relative). My only major comment is about the production. It feels a bit thin, especially for the drums. I did get numb after such a battery. Make them more present and brutal, and you have a killer album on its way. Click here!

Chaos Over CosmosThe Silver Lining Between the Stars: I have to apologize to Chaos Over Cosmos; this waited too long in my email box. Yes, it’s that kind of precise and robotic Djent/Prog Metal that reminds me of old Animals As Leaders and Periphery, but in the name of Satan, this thing is awesome! Decent production (though still a bit rough), incredible musicianship, complexity, and well-written riffs. This EP is so professional I’m going to check out the album and the Bandcamp website whenever I get a break from the tsunami of submissions I get every week. Wish me luck. In the meantime, if you like Prog, Djent, and MeloDeath, you must check this out! Click here!

OriskaDemo Tape: People, this sounds so sad! It’s crushing and painful. Deep from the dungeons of hell, Oriska mixes your typical Post-Black Metal depression and hopelessness with vocals right out of a DSBM band. It’s nasty, raw, and authentic. (Does anyone else hear Fall of Efrafa here? Oh, you don’t know that band and like Post-Metal? Shame on you!). You just have to be ready for humid production and be in the mood for something this absolutely bleak. This demo is promising, and I can’t wait to listen to the other three tracks the debut is going to have. While we hopelessly wait for better days. Click here!

This week was a good one! I didn’t expect to get so many professional submissions from bands that could easily get a full review in our main section. That means your mission is to support them as they grow. I’ve done my part; now it’s your turn to shine. Do what we do best and support the underground!
