True kvlt: Vyr Muk, Electrocutioner & Obšar

Metalcatto

It’s that time of the week again, when I take the most polite emails I’ve got and give them a few words of encouragement—and maybe some constructive feedback—because we all know most readers are feeling down and miserable, so why should I kick them even more? Okay, okay, enough of getting personal, let’s get to it!

Vyr Muk – 1310M: We’ve reviewed this project before. We already felt its potential, but in this new EP, Vyr Muk shows that the only thing keeping it from the big leagues are production constraints. There’s a good mix of Depressive Black Metal and just furious moments that complement each other greatly. The tracks could’ve easily become long and repetitive, but the band keeps it all in a tight package that holds your attention in one piece. So please, can anyone help them get the production level they deserve? Click here!

Electrocutioner – Harbringer: The promo said no-nonsense Thrash—and this delivered! The production is good, the ideas are fresh, and yet what caught my attention the most is how every track cuts to the chase so fast and still manages to retain substance. It’s not bashing in a pointless way. It tries to pack in as many punches as possible in as little time as it can. I had fun! And that says more than a lot of the stuff I review here. If you love your Metal like a bottle of cheap whisky, you should definitely give this album a try when it’s out! Click here!

Obšar – V rabstvi merzotnyka: With a title that reminds me my linguistic expertise is somewhere else entirely, this band comes with a contrasting initiative. On one hand, you have pummeling and racing Black Metal, but on the other, you get clean and well-produced Symphonic Metal-like ideas that actually fit together well—even though they don’t mix in some kind of corny way. Sure, this thing is still unpolished by big release standards, but I do believe Obšar has something novel to offer (maybe a less romantic take on Cradle of Filth’s formula?). No idea, but someone get these guys top-level production, okay? Click here!

And well, there it goes—another week of deep underground releases that hopefully some of you will enjoy. Did you know that now labels and promoters are scouting this section for talent? I didn’t until last week, so that should restore your faith in humanity for about five solid minutes.
