True kvlt: Thørles, Amerakin Overdose, & Willem

Metalcatto

Hi there, my depressed people of the internet! I know True kvlt usually doesn’t come out on Fridays, but a) I’m terribly busy living the summer life, and b) I recently joined Groover, and these are the projects that got my attention so far. They’re diverse and don’t exactly match my usual taste, but they definitely raise the quality of this section—not exactly known for its prestige. But hey, what can I do if you guys submit better stuff? Let’s go!

ThørlesBlood Eagle Vikings: As you might know, there’s no consistent evidence this was an actual method of execution. However, the band does a solid job channeling the wrath of Amon Amarth, minus the melodic polish. That might be a downside for you (honestly, it was for me!), but it’s interesting to hear a take on Viking lore that feels genuinely raw. So much of what we call “Viking” today is just carefully curated aesthetics. If you’re in the mood for primal, well-produced riffs with a rough edge, then click here!

Amerakin OverdoseNothing (Without You): You all know my relationship with Nu-Metal is more complicated than the Sino-Soviet split, but that doesn’t mean I can’t recognize talent when it’s real. How these guys aren’t more popular is beyond me. There’s Mudvayne energy all over this, but with cleaner production, catchy melodies, and emotional vocal dynamics rarely found in the genre. Yes, the snare is weird. Yes, it’s a bit melodramatic. But it stuck in my head and made me feel dirty—as the snob I claim to be. Click here!

Willem Jan KeddemanFortified: What happens when Djent riffs from the 2010s get combined with actual singing you might enjoy? You get Fortified, a track that could’ve easily turned into another palm-muted snoozefest, but instead brings in pop sensibilities and almost feels like a techy Caligula’s Horse. Does it get cheesy? Sure. But sometimes that’s what you need. If you’re feeling sad and want to cry in the dark, at least do it with polyrhythms that will help you regain your dignity. Click here!

Alright, kids! That’s it for today. You’ve got decent production, solid musicianship, and people who actually know how to play their instruments—something that doesn’t happen every week in True kvlt, but it doesn’t mean we love you any less. We all know this community thrives on the sweat and tears of anonymous artists. That’s just how it is. And if you want to submit your track to me, why not do it here? Cheers!
