It’s a pleasure to discover the depth of some Power Metal bands, whose musical fabric is composed of several layers, textures, nuances, and endearing sonorities. Tales of Destiny is a great example of a band that makes power metal not only a familiar experience, but a significantly deep and emotional one. Born in a small town in Quebec, the band emerged when five young teenagers came together to bring a musical dream to life. Feeling the call of metal and inspired by legends such as Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, and Children of Bodom, they managed to find their own sound, full of fury, passion, and conviction.
After more than a decade of silence, the five friends reunited. Thirty years of dreams, friendship, and raw, sincere, and deep Metal culminated in an anthology work: Ashes of Destiny. This album relives their history with new versions of songs from 1995 to 2010, maintaining the same intensity with which they began. Listening to it feels like stepping into a time capsule and embarking on a journey into the past, with all the authenticity and imperfections that make it real.
The magic of Ashes of Destiny goes beyond familiar sonorities, technical skill, or vocal mastery. It is important to remember that when these songs were first created, technologies like Dolby Atmos and other modern production tools did not exist. There was no cinematic sound or easy fixes for detuning or rhythmic mismatches. That’s exactly where the album’s strength lies: what we hear today is honest, raw music that reflects the excellence of musicians who play with soul and passion, without compromise. Every riff, every beat, and every vocal line is clear, powerful, and rooted in the essence of the old school, turning the listening experience into something moving and authentic.
The eleven tracks are filled with highlights. “Silence” evokes Bruce Dickinson with its dynamic rhapsody-like rhythmic pattern. Night Shadow burns as a true NWOBHM-inspired cut, with nods to Iced Earth and Iron Maiden. Opening track Lost Cries brings vibes of Viper and Labyrinth in its melody, fused seamlessly with Iced Earth-style vocals. Finally, “Rescued By An Angel” blends thrash elements with Children of Bodom’s epic death metal, achieving an aggressive balance of invigorating riffs, precise solos, and a devastating rhythmic base. The vocals throughout embody the power and fury of ’90s and 2000s metal, with thrilling nods to Judas Priest and Iced Earth.

In short, Ashes of Destiny is not just a catalogue bringing old songs back to life—it is a true declaration of principles. It proves that metal doesn’t fade with time but returns transformed, mature, and stronger, fueled by the same flame that gave it birth. Each track pays homage to the band’s story while reminding us of the beauty of creating music from the soul. Thirty years later, Tales of Destiny shows that camaraderie, authenticity, and passion remain the true engines of the genre.
With Ashes of Destiny, Tales of Destiny not only revives and honors its own legacy but also claims its rightful place in the spirit of power metal—indeed, in the universe of metal as a whole. This is where magic, mastery, nostalgia, and passion coexist, offering a home for all its children, both witnesses and protagonists of this enduring art.
