No time! Let’s go!
Enemynside – In the Shadows of Unrest: With a title that could easily adorn a coup attempt, this band returns with more thunderous riffs and direct aggression that you could almost swear belong to a Death/Thrash act. Yet Enemynside remains right at the edge of old-school Heavy Metal. It’s as if you took the retro approach and stripped away all the corny parts. What’s left is something most metalheads can easily get behind. Give it a try—it’s a low-risk investment with high potential for satisfaction.
Haast Hunter – Then Why: I almost feel guilty for enjoying this more than I probably should. This track strikes a balance between Djent and Deathcore, mixed with a commercial appeal that’s not exactly common in our metal world. Sure, it’s heavy and mean, but you can still sing along to it. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if this band doubles its fanbase by the next time we bring them up. Now, it’s definitely not for everyone—if you prefer your metal dirty, impenetrable, and allergic to hooks, you’ll have to look elsewhere. But if you want some edgy, accessible fun, stick with this.
Halcyon – Stench of the Stillborn: For those of you convinced instrumental music is overrated, I have good news: the Maltese group Halcyon plays Death Metal—with vocals. And they’re doing a phenomenal job. Stench of the Stillborn is easily a contender for the most complex Technical Death Metal track of the year. I should also mention that the band’s vocalist/guitarist is Zain Vermin Gauci of Pilgrimage, the project I think released the best album of 2025. You really need to check out Stench of the Stillborn—the solos are absolutely insane.
Vyr Muk – Chants of the Tenebrous Depth: Finally, some ultra-hostile and nasty Black Metal. We’ve covered Vyr Muk before, and this is probably my favorite work from the band so far. It’s ugly, terrifying, and brutally direct. The album wastes no time—right from the first seconds, it hurls you into a tornado of pain. If you’re a fan of raw Black Metal with actual production value and solid musicianship, this is tailor-made for you. There’s not much else to say except: put on your seatbelts and prepare for a violent ride.
