True kvlt: Chainline, Cease To Resist, Lipocalypse, Desu Taem, Denominate

Metalcatto

It’s the day of the bands with long names…

Chainline – Crawl: Let’s start with something genuinely emotional. Sure, Chainline aims for a more traditional melodic hardcore or post-hardcore taste, but that doesn’t mean the band slacks off. The lyrics are intensely earnest—you’ll have to decide if that’s a positive or a negative—but the track’s fundamental catchiness is undeniable, and the production is more than just decent; it’s clear and powerful. I simply appreciate that the emotion here doesn’t veer into corny territory for once, offering sincerity without cliché.

Cease To Resist – The Dark: Here’s more Power/Heavy Metal for those of you who need to headbang but also can’t help but feel a cathartic release. Sure, the cymbal sound could be a bit more defined, but the track delivers those classic Gamma Ray-like high-pitched vocals with a distinctly heavier, modern edge, so I can certainly get behind it. Perhaps it will be your thing, too. I’m sure reviewers like Elyna or Vicky would find plenty to enjoy here.

Track here!

Lipocalypse – You or Hymn: This is about as commercial as we’re going to get today. If you want something that makes you feel slightly guilty as a metalhead—because let’s face it, many of us love a bit of self-punishment—then this soft, almost melancholy electro-goth approach might be right for you. I know I’m pushing the boundaries with this one, but we’re here for supportive shout-outs, not for crushing dreams (that’s reserved for our proper review section!). Consider this music for your sad, contemplative commute home.

Desu Taem – Wicked Witch Oil Sick & Who F#ck The Cast Test Dummy?: The first track adheres to a classic, horror-synth vibe, but executed to a degree that anyone with nostalgia for the 80s could enjoy (thank Satan I was born later!). The second track is even lighter and more playful, and honestly, those lyrics made me crack up. It’s certainly childish, but we all need some unabashedly silly fun sometimes.

Denominate – Restoration: I feel a bit guilty including a plug for a full album here, but there’s simply not enough time in our short lives to cover everything properly. However, Denominate proves once again that whenever Finns tackle metal, they tend to excel. This is Progressive Death Metal that can make you fall out of your chair with its technical precision, matched by truly awesome songwriting. If you love Ne Obliviscaris or Opeth but have somehow lost interest in their recent directions, maybe this is exactly what you need.

P.U.M.A – MOHO ABYSS: If you think I’m getting soft and only reviewing digestible, cute music, well, here’s some Drone to give you nightmares, or at least a headache trying to figure out the “how and why?” of it all. This is the antithesis of relaxing music, even though the distortion is kept to a menacing minimum. It’s a stark, atmospheric test of endurance. Good luck trying to sit through this abyssal experience!
