Eximperitus – Meritoriousness of Equanimity

Metalcatto

I don’t know what Willowtip Records is cooking most of the time, but somehow they keep delivering. So when EximperitusMeritoriousness of Equanimity (what does that even mean?) landed in my mailbox, for once I actually had expectations. I knew next to nothing about the band, and judging by the lack of noise around them, this still feels like a fresh act in an already hostile scene. Fearing I might be getting ahead of myself, I dove into uncharted territory hoping to find gold—like a proper colonialist—but enough context, let’s start the plunder.

Creating Amid Conflict: Denis (Die Entweihung) on Life, Music, and Resistance

This interview has taken forever to complete. Mostly because of me being busy running this tiny Metal empire, but it was worth it to return to our humble origins—before wealth and fame corrupted us. Die Entweihung has the honor of being the first band we covered in True Kvlt. The raw MeloDeath project, led by Denis Tereschenko from Belarus, who also happens to live in Israel right now and is heavily political, made me have so many questions. And yes! I know this is a brutally heated and controversial subject. I’ll do my best to not misrepresent anyone and… who am I kidding? You’ll kill each other on IG anyway. Let’s go!

Matraque – Nature Morte

Metalcatto

I’ve been a reviewer long enough to understand one thing: I’m not easily intimidated by album promos. So when Matraque’s Nature Morte came in claiming to be full of aggression, depression, and despair, I felt like saying, “Yeah, right—I’ve heard it all before. Start playing and then we talk.” However, there were a few signs this album was going to be something else in terms of horror. One: the sober and yet sinister artwork. Two: the small number of tracks. But let’s see if I was right after all.
