Steegmoord – Mandatory

Metalcatto

At MER, we don’t have a policy against instrumental Metal—in fact, most of us would probably agree that it wasn’t the vocals that first made us fall in love with this weird genre. Steegmoord is an instrumental project that avoids both the shred-heavy and Djent-obsessed ends of the spectrum, and for me, that alone warrants a bit of attention. Sure, the artwork for Mandatory might look suspiciously similar to that of Redemptor, but if this album is even half as good as Arthaneum, I’d consider myself briefly satisfied with life.

Marche Funèbre – After The Storm

I don’t know when or how it happened, but the universe has conspired to make 90s Death/Doom cool again. More and more bands are rehashing this clearly underrated style, and I welcome it with open arms. Bring back the era of alienated pain! Marche Funèbre isn’t new to the sorrow game. The band has been delivering for more than a decade, always offering what angsty Metalheads need, which is why I approached After the Storm with uncalled optimism. So, let’s see how this is going to hurt me!

Releases that almost fell down the cracks: Gurkkhas, Humanity Defiled, Gorgonchrist, Arx Artrata

Here are the releases that are either coming out soon or have just been released. They almost slipped through the cracks, but thanks to my persistence and the relentless nagging of my new interns, they get at least a few words today. I must emphasize, these are underground releases, so be a responsible Metalhead and do your part by sharing, buying, shouting about them, or whatever people do these days to get attention.
