This was supposed to be easy… seems I was wrong once again. Typically, the “misanthropic Black Metal” genre tag is enough to guarantee an album a fairly high rating, at least on my behalf. So, when I dived into this album and I was right off the bat not very impressed by it, I felt the urge to slap myself in every fiber of my being. That being said, despite my initial reaction, SULT’s self titled debut ended up being a fairly pleasant listen. However, make sure you listen to it on a decent sound system and with a high volume, otherwise you’re doing yourself a huge disservice, and will end up feeling like you’ve wasted the last hour of your life.

Phrenelith – Ashen Womb

Look at that art! Doesn’t it look desolate? Doesn’t it make you feel like Phrenelith is going to obliterate your ears so badly that you’ll actually start wearing earplugs at concerts (as a hearing expert, I highly recommend you do it anyway)? Ashen Womb promises what any Danish death metal album would: unfathomable agony and horror. But can it really stand out from the crowd? Let’s find out!

Panzerchrist – Maleficium Part I

It’s time to return to no-nonsense, unapologetic Black Metal that can tear us a new one any day of the week. So, I bring you Panzerchrist (ask the AI to draw this name, please!) and its new album Maleficium Part I, which promises a level of fury and hysteria that many of you have been missing. You know Black Metal these days—it can get a bit complicated. Don’t you miss some meat and potatoes? Well, I think that’s what we’ve got here—or maybe not? It’s time to find out. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you about this album’s approach.

Iotunn – Kinship

Some bands deserve more than a simple review. Some albums deserve an elegy. It is well-nigh impossible to give a verbal description to the whirling tangle of emotions they evoke, but this is why music exists in the first place – to channel sentiments that evade other mediums of expression. In a hopeless attempt to perceive the divine machinery of art, we can only aspire to arouse curiosity in others with the humble means at our disposal. And it is with this hope that I bid you welcome to the world of Iotunn‘s Kinship.

Hyperdontia – Harvest of Malevolence

As you know, Northern Europe is legendary for its Metal production. Each country has its niche. Norway excels in old-school Black and Avant-Garde, Sweden in Death and Black, Iceland in Black and Post, and Finland is pretty much good at everything. Did I miss anyone? Ah, right, there’s Denmark, known for…Mercyful Fate? A few underground bands? (I love you, Saturnus!) Awkward, but there’s one band in the last decade that has come to restore Danish honor: Hyperdontia. Today, we’re talking about Harvest of Malevolence. Er du klar? Ready?
