Doedsvangr – Within The Flesh

Metalcatto

It’s been a while since we’ve had decent Black Metal emerge from the pit. Enter Doedsvangr with Within The Flesh, an album sporting one of those cover arts that makes you take this whole thing way too seriously. I’ve been let down before, so my defenses are high. I can’t be hurt again. Either way, that discussion is for my shrink. In the meantime, let’s wonder just how Norwegian this thing can possibly get.

Burning Witches – Inquisition

Vicky

I might be subjective, but I love bands whose members are all women. This is why, when I first heard that the fierce ladies in Burning Witches have just released Inquisition, I really wanted to write about it. This Swiss/American/Dutch band plays Heavy and Power Metal and we have to give them credit. So far, they’ve done a fantastic job at it! But how about Inquisition? Let’s see!

Castrator – Coronation of the Grotesque

Metalcatto

When I got the promo for Castrator’s Coronation of the Grotesque, my eyes rolled back so hard that, for a moment, I could see my brain (this makes no anatomical sense, just saying). This was because, with a name so edgy and typical for Brutal Death Metal, there couldn’t possibly be anything original here, right? But I was wrong. This is an all-female band that is basically giving the male demographic a taste of their own medicine. Let’s face it—so much Death Metal is about doing horrible things to women. We needed something else! And I’m all for making the world a fairer place, so let’s go!
