Wayd – Reinvent

Metalcatto

As the year winds down and I clean our mailbox of lost hopes and dreams, I try to rescue a few things from the junk pile. Wayd is a band that has existed almost as long as yours truly. That usually means one of two things: a great history of success, or a long series of tragic events that stopped the project for years. Sometimes, of course, you get both. Anyway, I’m not entirely sure where Reinvent will fit into this story, but let’s see if the album was worth my dive into the mud. Fingers crossed.

Within Silence – The Eclipse of Worlds

Elyna Kahn

After reviewing several promos in my inbox, I stumbled upon a title that caught my attention: The Eclipse of Worlds by Within Silence from Slovakia. It was my first encounter with a Slovakian band and another “Within”—aside from Within Temptation. I didn’t know what to expect. I only review music that stirs something deep within my heart. So, after listening to several other bands, I clicked the link without high expectations. I downloaded the tracks and started listening. At first glance, it seemed like a generic Power Metal album. On the second listen, I realized it’s pure Power Metal—in the best sense of the term.

Ceremony of Silence – Hálios

Slovakian Metal might seem alien to you, just as it would to me if I hadn’t visited Slovakia. There isn’t much to say about the country—great food, impressive castles, but the customer service can be terrible. This deadly combination almost begs for the creation of interesting heavy music. So, you might wonder if I’m writing this review in advance to gain a competitive edge. Well, yes and no. Ceremony of Silence is my kind of band, and just a glimpse of the cover art of Hálios makes me salivate more than free food at a boring conference.
