True kvlt – The Giant Baba, Eisige Venen, JAELYN, June 1974, Ghost Frog and Crystal Sun

In today’s edition of True kvlt, we’re featuring an insane variety of bands and styles. You might think I’m trying to spam you mercilessly, and you’re sort of right. However, they’re all singles! So, if you put them all together, it’ll take the same amount of time that you would otherwise waste watching cat videos instead of doing something productive with your life, like exploring the deep underground. You know It’s time!

The Giant BabaThe Northern White Sun: Do you like your Prog to feel futuristic? Do you miss old Animals as Leaders or Plini? Then The Giant Baba is for you! Sure, there’s a lot of pretty Metal going on with this track, but it never loses its grit and edge. The Northern White Sun plays like a sequence of mathematical steps and might leave you cold, but if you pay attention, you’ll see how many details it has. This isn’t for all our readers, but if you want more instrumental virtuosity, there you have it. Click here!

Eisige VenenThe Skies Lament: Back to our bread and butter. This is melancholic Black Metal with that slightly lo-fi production that gives it a bit more flavor. It’s entertaining despite being atmospheric at the same time. I would’ve appreciated a bit more variety in the track since the biggest problem with Black Metal today is getting stuck too long in one riff. But the riff slaps, so nothing but constructive criticism here. I’d love to hear where this goes next. Click here!

JAELYNMire Mite (The Twins): Well, this is different and weird. Right off the bat, you’ll hate this if you only like your Metal with blast beats and guitars pummeling you to death. However, JAELYN is a strange mix between Power/Heavy Metal epic feels and Punk/Rock accessibility. I’m not sure if it works, but I’m fascinated! This thing is unique and catchy, showing us that not all heavy music has to come from the depths of hell; it can also be as catchy as chlamydia. If these guys get a cleaner mix, then I’m all in. June 1974Hurt: Oh people! This is so relaxing. It’s almost not Metal anymore. It’s like Alcest meets the sad ending track of your favorite anime series. After all the war you people put me through, sometimes it’s nice to get something that breathes so much. Colorful and endearing; the only thing that I have against it is that the voice sounds slightly robotic and it could take me a full album or two to digest it, but otherwise, I’m sure our Post-Rock reviewer will salivate for this! Ghost FrogShadow Club: When I saw the band picture of this promo, I knew we had to review this (there’s no way these guys are serious and I love it). It’s a mix of old psychedelic Rock with ’90s Grunge with truly wacky, saturated sound. It feels like being abducted by aliens while high. You just have to be willing to accept the Grunge in it because that is going to smack you in the face almost every second of the song. Click here (not the actual single, but the band’s work!)

Crystal SunKee-wakw: Enough love and laughs! Time for some horror movie feelings. This guitar work is fun. It has a clear understanding of where to put its punches, plus it’s quite elaborate for the short length of the song. It’s not pretentious at all. It has that strong ’90s Scandinavian Black Metal mixed with other Folk influences that honestly make me genuinely excited to see what Crystal Sun will do next (just fight the True kvlt production, and you’re golden, guys). There you have it! Something from almost every corner of the Metalsphere (I’m sorry to break it to you, but the Metal world isn’t flat!). Next week, we’ll get some more albums and EPs. You see? We keep our word, which is why I expect you to be back here soon!
