True kvlt: Sonolith, Grimgotts, & Fallen Gabriel

What if I told you that sometimes, in this section, we feature fresh releases? As in, they’re not even out yet. I picked three for today, and the best part is that they’re so different from each other, mixing them up will feel like eating jelly bathed in chicken fat with a touch of cinnamon. Absolutely disgusting, right? Well, I promise everything here will be far better than whatever atrocity you just imagined. As usual, give them love or give them hate—but please, give them something!

Sonolith – III: I’m getting into the dirty and messy Doom that our friends from the depths of the scene send us every month. However, Sonolith isn’t what I expected. There aren’t many instrumental Doom/Psychedelic bands out there, so this album is at least a curious one. It’s almost relaxing in how it contrasts emotions: it starts mean and sad but slowly reveals more playful facets of Sonolith. I won’t lie—it feels strange to have this type of music without a singer. I’m not even sure I’m on board, but III is different and makes up for the lack of vocals with some fun guitar work. If you love Doom but hate the corny vocalists many bands put us through, this might just be for you! The single will be out for the mortals soon, but Click here!

Grimgotts – The Time of the Wolfrider: Those of you who’ve been reading us for a while know that I love Power Metal so much I’ve outsourced it to Elyna (sarcasm, obviously!). But I gave Grimgotts a chance, and despite feeling like a more compact version of Dragonforce or Twilight Force, I have to say I love the harsh vocals in this album—it adds more layers! It’s like you’re in the middle of playing Dungeons & Dragons, and suddenly, someone who reeks of beer punches through the table, fed up with how absurd everything is. Grimgotts brings Power Metal with a bit more attitude, and that’s highly appreciated! Plus, this is a concept album with a fun story (the promo even came with a map of a magical land—buy it and you’ll see). The album will be out for the plebs soon, but Click here!

Fallen Gabriel – The Benevolence of Death: OK, I lied—this album is already out, but it hasn’t been long, so chill out—you can still trust me. This has that signature True kvlt production: rough but organic, though the drums could use a bit more punch. There’s a strong Aquilus vibe across Benevolence (in fact, I’d call it “Aquilus from the streeeetzzzz!”), and that’s always a plus. I also enjoyed the aura of mystery—it creates a proper foggy, even beautiful atmosphere, without bludgeoning you with the same riff for 10 minutes straight. It’s quite spectacular in scope, even at over 57 minutes long. So if you’re in for an epic, harrowing quest, I believe Fallen Gabriel has what you need. Click here!

There you have it, my beloved corpse-painted children. Now that the queue for True kvlt is short, you can submit your work to us. Please, try to send a proper email! No matter how many times I say this, people still send us albums via fax. That’s hard to listen to, you know? Just a thought! See you next Sunday, when we’ll give another chance to those who need it most. Ciao, ciao!
