It’s that time of the week again, when we look at our inbox and feel infinite mercy for the little guy. When we say: enough with the clout-chasing, let’s talk about those who took the time to send us a respectful, well-written email. Even if we don’t reply directly, consider this our thoughtful response to your submission. This week, I have to admit, I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality of material we’ve received. So, let’s dive in!

Bullhead – Metacrush: This is nasty! Imagine a mix of Hardcore and old-school Swedish Death Metal, and you’ll get a sense of just how decadent and dirty this sounds. No nonsense, no respect! It’s packed with attitude, and while I’m usually not the biggest fan of this combination, Bullhead manages to make one of the most well-worn ideas in Metal feel fresh, thanks to subtle tweaks to the classic formula. I shouldn’t have enjoyed this, but if you can set aside your pretentious ambitions for a bit, you might just find a dark corner in your heart for Metacrush. Click here!

Grimworm – Feed the Earth: In some ways, Grimworm is no stranger to us at MER. In fact, it features Mathew (you don’t know him? Well, me neither until now). Yet, it’s s a solo project! But don’t expect typical and unhealthy Death\Doom here—this is a Doom project with more in common with Khemmis than Tomb Mold. It’s the kind of Metal you put on while driving aimlessly through a desert, full of groove and tasty guitar work. Some parts drag a bit for me, but if you’re into dirty Doom, this one’s for you! Negative Bliss – Everything Hurts and I’m Dying: With a title that sounds like waking up after turning 35, I have to say, this is my jam! Depressing, crushing Post-Metal with Hardcore influences that really makes you feel the pain of being alienated in a cynical society. Some of you might complain that this release can get a little too mellow at times, but given how painful the material is, I think we can handle it. The EP (I think it’s an EP?) isn’t out yet, but honestly, I can’t wait for these guys to drop an album or just more material ASAP. Click here!
Our weekly pact with the devil has been fulfilled, and for once, I really, really recommend you check out these bands. There’s no raw production here, but bands that don’t want to sound like baboons screaming inside a shipping container have a right to be featured in this section too. Join us next week, where we’ll give a chance to music no one else seems willing to because “they don’t have enough clout”. Fudge that! On Sundays, we stop being sharks. But don’t get too cozy—we’re still ruthless business people the rest of the week. See you!
