After reviewing several promos in my inbox, I stumbled upon a title that caught my attention: The Eclipse of Worlds by Within Silence from Slovakia. It was my first encounter with a Slovakian band and another “Within”—aside from Within Temptation. I didn’t know what to expect. I only review music that stirs something deep within my heart. So, after listening to several other bands, I clicked the link without high expectations. I downloaded the tracks and started listening. At first glance, it seemed like a generic Power Metal album. On the second listen, I realized it’s pure Power Metal—in the best sense of the term.
The album title resonated deeply with me after that second playthrough. During an eclipse, the sun hides, light shifts, and we see things differently. Defined shapes can blur or merge. Thinking about an Eclipse of Worlds, it suggests fusion—a union of forces giving birth to new forms. Many ancient cultures believed that timelines merge during eclipses, uniting the various versions of a person into one. That’s precisely the sensation evoked by this third album from Within Silence. Its nine tracks, with their familiar sounds, create a sonic journey that feels evocative and deeply personal. They unlock memories stored in my subconscious—emotions, déjà vu, and waves of nostalgia. Listening to The Eclipse of Worlds triggered these sensations, especially certain songs that made my evocative memory soar.

“The Mist” took me back to the freedom of adolescence—lazy afternoons with friends, shaded by trees, laughing and sharing a beer. It’s a captivating track, reminiscent of Labyrinth and Vision Divine in its riffs, melodic solos, and overall structure. The vocals and melodic framework echo Iron Maiden. Meanwhile, “When Worlds Collide” channels a strong Maiden influence in its structure, with galloping rhythms and jumping riffs reminiscent of Tierra Santa. It feels like walking along a beach with a cold wind on your face—solitary, peaceful, perfect.
The stunning ballad “Storyline” blends the sounds of Bruce Dickinson and Iron Maiden with touches of Glam Metal. It evokes heartbreak and despair, reminding me of life’s hard moments, endured and overcome with good music. Finally, “The Broken Thorn” opens with beautiful keyboards, then merges the sounds of Iron Maiden, Hammerfall, and Stratovarius. The vocals once again recall Bruce Dickinson. It’s a fast, fluid track with a catchy, bright chorus that lingers like a mantra. Listening to it transported me back to my time as a frontwoman in a Power Metal band 15 years ago—those moments of belonging and purpose I long to relive.
Within Silence delivers an endearing album with impeccable sound and a classic, balanced melodic structure. It’s pure Power Metal to the core. Simultaneously, it’s a retrospective journey—energizing, evocative, and memory-laden. It fuses different timelines, eclipsing the listener’s worlds and uniting their past selves into the present moment. The Eclipse of Worlds holds you tight, piecing you back together. It’s a bit like experiencing everything, everywhere, all at once, accompanied by the familiar sounds that have defined our journeys through the world of Metal.
