Medusian, a Swedish symphonic Metal band, has unveiled its new EP Library, featuring seven tracks that each weave a distinct and engaging narrative. Themes range from mythology and revenge to personal experiences and identity, with each track telling its own story. The cover art captures a solitary figure in a vast library, ascending a staircase toward a glowing, blue-lit window—a symbol of life, prosperity, and an ideal state. Framed by rich purple curtains, this imagery evokes power and mystery, serving as a fitting visual metaphor for the EP’s thematic exploration.
The EP opens with “Wandering Soul”, a cinematic intro that sets the tone, transporting listeners to another realm. This flows seamlessly into “Facestealer”, a high-energy track exploring themes of identity through the tale of a creature stealing faces. The song is dynamic, featuring varied vocal styles—from clean singing to intense death and black metal growls—and a structure marked by dramatic shifts and emotional depth, a hallmark of the EP. “Bottom of the Well” provides a softer, introspective contrast, delving into themes of inner darkness and personal struggle. The EP concludes with the title track, “Library”, which vividly evokes the cover art’s mysterious world, leaving listeners pondering what lies beyond.
For a band with such young members, Library is an impressive embodiment of Symphonic Metal’s core elements. I highly recommend it to fans of both Symphonic and Black Metal, as it showcases both the genre’s grandeur and Medusian’s artistic potential.
