True kvlt: Revelation, Fourth Autumn, Onioroshi & Midnight Whiskey Massacre

Pegah & Metalcatto

It’s another session of Weekly Rapid Fire! Some of our readers sent us stuff, and we’ve been through the pain… I mean, the joy of listening to it live and then writing a paragraph or two so the hungry masses can quench their thirst for brutality for another 20 seconds. That’s not much, but it’s something. Alright, let’s get started—I don’t have all day!

Revelation – Woodland Hymns: Alright, it finally happened. Someone has claimed the prize for the most kvlt-sounding work we’ve ever had in this section. It’s the definition of rawness. It’s poetry with instruments going on in the background rather than the other way around. So, you need to be prepared for something strange, yet still reminiscent of the first days of Black Metal. In a way, this is a love letter to ’90s Norway, where bands would record music with one of these. Click here!

Fourth Autumn- Mock The Weak: I know what you’re thinking—that main track name has to be a dirty joke (“Mourning Wood”). This is a proper vintage review since the album came out a long time ago, but I still wanted to acknowledge how it mixes Melodic Death Metal with a The Black Dahlia Murder style, while also having moments of Black Metal pummeling. Besides, this thing is recorded properly. You never know, but I hope the band makes a comeback in some form. Why the fudge it never got a label? That mystery escapes me. Click here!

Onioroshi – Shine: Enough with all the blasting—how about we listen to some relaxing Prog that takes a lesson or two from bands like Pelican? Shine is a long trip, but one that will help you reflect on your own life and decisions. Yes, the production could be a bit better if you ask me, but not many bands risk so much so early. In fact, most bands would be afraid of playing mid-tempo and sometimes even slow Prog. It requires confidence and skill, and I think Onioroshi has both of those. Click here!

Midnight Whiskey MassacreRocking Chair: The British heavy stoner Rock/Sludge Metal band Midnight Whiskey Massacre has just released “Rocking Chair”. This track unveiled a few days ago, delves into a childhood memory through heavy riffs and a gravelly voice that evokes mystery, loneliness, and long-buried secrets. The song paints a haunting picture of an old house, where a lone rocking chair sits in a quiet room—a symbol of nostalgia and forgotten stories. At the heart of this memory is a solitary woman who may have once lived there, spending her days in that very chair. Now, only her diary remains, filled with secrets known only to the room itself. This one was an extra-long session, so I won’t waste your time. You know what to do! Give the love or hate, but give these bands something!
