Hi there! A bit less madness this week, but still enough to make the normal mind insane. Let’s go!

NiKoV – Martyr a vu: You know well that, as with anyone pretentious, I’m infatuated with French stuff. This track is a strange mix of Power Metal and Melodic Death Metal, with a nice yet slightly rusty vibe that reminds me of 90s Nordic Metal — always a good comparison. The track doesn’t neatly fit any stereotype, and at first that didn’t sit well with me, but now I realize this project has potential to grow and find its audience. Give it a try if you like powerful melodic lines and curious vocals. Click here!

David White Jr – The Novitiate: When I’m sick of all the Metal and Punk the mailbox throws at me, it’s refreshing to get some high-level instrumental Jazz that proves there are many paths to musical mastery. This one feels light, fun, and proggy, but also brings a welcome organic touch. Something so lost in our current era. I can picture the sorrowful night bar where David would be playing while we all drown our misfortunes in alcohol. Cheers for that! Click here!

Felipe del Valle – I Will Not Fear: If we ever get a full album in this style, Elyna would be the best person for it. That said, if you have a strong connection to the old days of Heavy and Power Metal — and let’s face it, most of us do — then Felipe’s work hits all the right spots. Despite its lighter mood, the track still feels gritty enough to earn its place in this section of the blog. It’s accessible yet underground, uplifting without falling into the overly polished clichés the subgenre has become. Click here!

IDŌL – Secur: At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of IDŌL. It’s certainly Gothic/Indie Rock in many ways, but I can’t stop imagining bats dancing in a weird disco while listening to it. It has that Type O Negative energy that’s hard to pull off seriously. This isn’t extreme, but it’s mysterious and quirky (the vocals will definitely grab your attention one way or another). Since this section is all about exploring the deep weirdness of the underground, if you want that with top-notch production values, this one’s for you. Click here!
Random news of the week (Vicky wanted to share this with you to push her Romanian agenda, of course!)
Recently, the young Romanian Thrash/Death Metal band Punisher announced via social media that former bass player Mihai Andrei Tutunaru has been replaced by 17-year-old Eduard Bogdan Zahn (also known as Tsan), ex-bassist of a local Black Metal band. Personally, I’m really looking forward to new Punisher material. I’m sure it will be as great as their previous work, if not even better. Until then, you can listen to all of their songs here.
You don’t want to wait forever? Then send me your track here!
