Triumpher – Piercing The Heart of The World

Metalcatto

Enough with all the edgy and depressing stuff. How about some epic Heavy/Power Metal to remind you that you were once an innocent child full of hopes and dreams before the world mauled you into the husk you are now. Triumpher‘s Priercing The Heart of the World opens with everything that promises to lift your spirits, right?

Aaaaah! That’s the kind of sound this inspires. Piercing The Heart of the World is nothing but over the top, flashy, and a total homage to the funnier side of Metal, without delving into insufferable geek territory. Still, it has plenty of swords, kings, and all that stuff so many of you get stuck with. Except the music doesn’t make me feel embarrassed. It actually has quality. The execution is confident and the songwriting holds up beyond the usual fantasy trappings.

You get your dramatic voices, long tracks, and epic guitar solos. Plus everything has a sense of urgency that comes off as refreshing, considering how many albums like to fool around these days. This world has indeed some heart, and though I usually don’t enjoy big displays of emotion, this is something I can get behind. The musicianship is tight, the production gives everything room to breathe, and the whole affair feels like a genuine labor of love rather than a calculated nostalgia grab. Yet, you know that me reviewing epic Metal is a battle with nature itself, and there are other things to say.

I have no problem with the shiny optimism Piercing The Heart of the World offers. However, the pace does get slow for my taste once we reach the middle of the journey. The power ballads, placed back to back, take away some of the hype and momentum the album had built up so well. It’s a brief moment of confusion, a lull that makes you question where the energy went. But the album recovers after that, galloping back into familiar territory with renewed vigor. So I’m not that mad about it.

Triumpher feels like a band from another time. It’s dramatic, fast, but accessible to most Metalheads. It dives into retro territory without overindulgence, striking a balance between homage and originality. It’s almost as if, for once, the geeky music isn’t just for well, Middle Earth fanatics. You know the type. The ones with complex sex lives and strong opinions about elven lineages. Anyway, bring your imaginary dragon and cardboard sword, because this party rages on. Piercing The Heart of the World won’t change your life, but it might remind you why you fell in love with this ridiculous, glorious genre in the first place.
