We’ve got a big one today!
Arkanis – Dark: We have an OG of this section back. What can I say? It’s solid Heavy Metal with MeloDeath touches that offers reliable riffs, but most of all, you can actually hear that thick bass cutting through the mix. That’s the highlight of this track. Try to enjoy the simple things in life, okay? Not everything needs to be revolutionary to be satisfying.
Opus Arcana – The Dying Light: Jeez, this was heavy. It’s like Atheist meets The Dillinger Escape Plan but with a Djent tone layered on top. What else do you need to dive into this thing? Sure, the production is clean and modern, but that doesn’t take away from the savagery. The riffs are sharp, the rhythm section is unhinged, and the whole thing feels like being chased through a burning building. Recommended for those who like their chaos controlled.
Chainline – Beaten: More Finnish Heavy Metal that should suit the noobs and the old heads alike. The production is pretty good, and the vocals steal most of the attention with their commanding presence, but overall, the epic feelings are portrayed without being blown out of proportion. That’s something I can always appreciate—ambition kept in check by taste. No silly theatricality here.
Vihilja – Anima Sola: A veteran of this section, this track is definitely my thing. It offers all that blasting, powerful Black Metal energy, but it also has those soft and more sensitive moments that give emotional depth to the experience. Somehow, it ends up feeling like a super brutal version of The Cure—all atmosphere and ache, just with blast beats. In two words: good stuff.
Holy Hell – The Road: To prove I’m not a total snob, here I have some anxious-driven, melodically angsty Metal. I don’t know, one can run out of labels these days, but these guys do know how to make pain sound comforting and clean. This is the track this week that could actually end up on the radio if that was still a thing people listened to. Accessible without being stupid. That’s a fine line, and they walk it well.
Profiler – Late Again: I’m familiar with the band, so I was expecting to get hit with a hammer. It turns out things can be more melodic and clearly Nu-Metal inspired here, which I shouldn’t like on principle, but this was just too catchy to let it go down the drain. It’s loud, engaging, and a throwback to the 2000s era without a doubt. Sometimes the guilty pleasures are the ones that stick with you the longest. Don’t tell anyone I said that.
