I’m travelling today, so let’s move!
Insipidus – Impossible Choices & Suffer: This was a long listen, but it was strange, idiosyncratic, and nasty. At moments it felt like instrumental Post-Metal, but before I could sit down, this thing would take me on a tour through Prog Death that almost made me think of bands like Horrendous. If you like unorthodox things, this is it. It doesn’t follow a straight line, and that’s exactly the point.
I just added the whole album, it’s cool!
Sleeping in Silence – See The Dark: Cozy name for a band, right? Well, this track has that angsty and young energy that reminds you of 2000s Nu-Metal or 2010s Metalcore. So you get what’s coming: dense guitars and emotionally overwhelming choruses that could make you blush. It’s not subtle, but it’s not trying to be.
IKAD – Twt: I have an absurd soft spot for this kind of Prog and jazzy mix that not only delivers technicality and creativity but also feels colorful and warm. These guys have serious talent, and if you love instrumental Metal that resembles Thank You Scientist—you’re welcome, kid—this is something you must dive into. I will totally do it now.
Soul of Sheol – Paradise is Not for Us: The French are back to show us they can do weirder and better again. This is Symphonic Deathcore, so think of Mental Cruelty with more drama infused into it, and you’ll get a good idea of what this goes for. It’s pretty bombastic and spectacular, so don’t worry too much about getting bored. Theatricality is the whole point.
Seeing Hell A.D. – Dissection: If this track seems to promise getting hit on the knees with the back of a hammer, then your imagination is right. Unpolished and filthy Death Metal that delivers nothing but a relentless attack. Not sure if it’s new, but those drums sound so disgusting that anyone will have an opinion about it. Love it or hate it, you won’t ignore it.
Ara-Solis – The Awakening: We hadn’t touched any Heavy or Power Metal in this section so far, so I thought, why not? This track has that 90s nostalgia, instrumental prowess, and classic intense vocals that have made so many of you love the lighter side of extreme Metal. As in, it’s not extreme at all, but that doesn’t mean you people can’t enjoy it. So get ready for dramatic riffs and soaring melodies. Sometimes you need a break from the filth. This is that break.
