Khemmis – Khemmis

Metalcatto

At this point, you know I like Doom, but I’m not Pegah, so my level of fanaticism is relatively sober. However, if there’s one Doom band that makes me feel like a cat on catnip, it’s Khemmis. Sure, the band still has yet to surpass its first two albums, but everything afterward has been nothing but quality. That’s why you’d expect Khemmis to be a display of the band’s experience and maturity, right? You know, these guys know the game. Or so I hope.

This is bombastic. Khemmis is not slow at all. Sure, it’s not a blastbeat mayhem, but the band shows everything it has to make this a proper return to the good old days of Heavy Metal. Yet it has Khemmis written all over it—the melodies, the despair, the dense distortion. Many bands have tried to mimic this style, but only a few have succeeded. Khemmis is still one of those. Its music is as touching as it is engaging, balancing raw power with genuine emotional weight.

To me, Khemmis has always felt like rainfall in the desert. The sound is so rich, but the imagery it portrays is so barren. This is also true here. The album is potent and full of memorable moments. It mixes power and heartache seamlessly. If you need a good cry, but with dignity and restraint, Khemmis delivers. The band shows the same level of maturity and consistency that fans have come to expect. There has to be something to throw tomatoes at, right? I can’t give too many good scores in a week. You’ll lose respect for me. Nooo.

I’m digging deep here because there’s little to complain about on this album. Perhaps all the tracks follow the same formula, and it would be nice to mix things up more. That’s a small thing. Or maybe we should have gotten an even more bombastic closing act. However, the only real point against Khemmis could be the high bar the band has already set for itself. It will take some time for me to decide if this beats the old releases. But that’s more about legacy than quality.

Khemmis has great writing from start to end. Great sound, even if the production is loud. It doesn’t matter because the album is a constant emotional rush full of epic moments. It’s more than just consistent. It offers something to veterans and newcomers alike. A perfect album for those who have always been too distracted to try this hidden gem. Now go check this out and don’t let us down. Khemmis has done its part. Now it’s your turn to listen.
