Iron Slaught – Metallic Torments

Metalcatto

There are days when I wake up and actually don’t feel like putting myself through the most disgusting, inhumane, or nihilist music you people drop on our mailbox. Sometimes I want to feel life has a purpose—even if it doesn’t. So how about a Speed Metal band like Iron SlaughtMetallic Torment should be everything I find cheesy, but this is a French band, and you know Metal is the only thing where we don’t hate on them. In fact, we love their work. So let’s see if we can keep that going—the love, I mean, not the hate.

At first, I wasn’t all convinced by Metallic Torment. It felt a bit too familiar. But then, as the album kept moving forward, it clicked. This is truly a victorious parade, full of epic riffs, dramatic solos, and writing that, though you’ve felt a lot of it before, still stands out in terms of intensity. You’ll feel how you, through pain, sweat, and sheer determination, manage to slay your deepest demons—your cruelest foes. You see, I’m getting carried away. The thing is, this is Iron Maiden but not corny. That’s great, right?

There’s a decent variety of tracks here. They all feel a little different from each other, adding more layers to this adventure. You can feel the roar of battle, and not its misery—that’s what 1914 is for. Now, aside from the spectacular guitar work, one thing that really got my attention were the vocals. They constantly oscillate between Death/Thrash rusty aggression and Candlemass operatic drama. I’m just happy they avoid severe excesses like the ones in… other bands. Looking at you, Rhapsody of Fire.

Perhaps my only big issue with Metallic Torment is that the ideas are indeed familiar. The riffing, the drumming, even the solos—they work because they possess the elements we always loved when we started our journey into the Metalsphere. However, its safety makes me a bit on the fence about putting this album all over the moon. Yet, it’s a blast. The adrenaline never stops pumping. So if you’re comfortable with something consistent rather than bold, then this is for you.

Iron Slaught wasn’t supposed to impress me. I usually despise anything this “traditional.” But when quality is high, you can’t deny what you’ve got in your hands, even if it’s from the kind of Metal you love making fun of. This is a serious battle, and I expect you to take it as the epic quest that, deep down, it is. So raise your horns, charge forward, and let Metallic Torment remind you why you fell in love with this music in the first place. Not everything needs to be revolutionary. Sometimes you just need a good old-fashioned victory march.
