Ecco Tenebris – Broken Eyes: I guess this is Symphonic Metal? Despite sounding like it’s from the Netherlands, it comes straight out of Miami. That’s unexpected, I know, but the track has all those elements you love from the niche, while also taking a few risks by making things darker and heavier. So it’s like very dramatic MeloDeath—maybe. The orchestration is lush, the guitars have bite, and the vocals soar without becoming saccharine. It’s a curious blend of accessibility and aggression that doesn’t fully commit to either side.
Sunderwood – Coming Home to Mercury: This track is proof that we should get more Prog and Thrash, but very few bands deliver. There’s a strong Voivod vibe here—the vibe is quirky, but the talent is there, and the creativity too. In fact, I’d review the whole album if these guys send it to me. It’s as fun as it is musically interesting, with twists and turns that keep you on your toes. The riffs are angular, the rhythms are unpredictable, and the whole thing feels like a sci-fi movie you didn’t know you needed a soundtrack for.
Ken Okada Group ft. YOYOKA – Crossing Over: This has next to nothing to do with what we cover on this website, but good Jazz can’t be ignored. It has lots of warm and fresh ideas, plus great guitar and piano work. How could I just let it pass? So here I am, trying to offer you something different from all the stuff we do here. So listen to this on a sunny day. It’s bright, it’s nimble, and it’s packed with a level of musicianship that deserves recognition even outside its genre. You don’t have to be a Jazz head to appreciate this.
Desu Taem – You Ain’t Got The Nerve: You know what to expect from these guys. More radio-friendly stuff that reminds us of older and less complicated times. Or it might be polarizing, since it may or may not fit here. Anyway, if you only want a few minutes of nostalgia and then move on, this track has you covered. It’s catchy, it’s cheeky, and it doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t.
Black Anchor Sounds – Scourge of The Godless Tide: Wild stuff that makes me think of Viking Metal. Not as heavy, maybe a bit more Power Metal than some of you would like, but it has a lot of feeling and rawness that I can appreciate. Yes, it has a lot of Eluveitie moments—but the old kind of moments. That should be good enough for you, right? The folk elements are there, but they don’t overwhelm the metal core. It’s a solid track for anyone who wants their folk metal with a bit more bite and a bit less polish. So raise your horns, grab your mead, and let this one wash over you. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but it’s rolling pretty smoothly.
