Metalcatto

This is the bribery section. We all know it.

Desu Taem – Spit Blood, Break Teeth / Why Not Just Get a Cat?: You know what’s up here. The same old Radio Rock that makes me wonder what the point is anymore. Well, I guess the point is having fun and not taking music too seriously. Desu Taem isn’t here to make art at all, but it does manage to entertain with its simplicity and catchiness.

Aviditas – Sorrows for Sale: Another old friend here. What can I say? The project sticks to its roots, which means being dramatic and having heart-wrenching vocals. Sure, this has a Radio Rock appeal, but not everything we cover here is total mayhem. We also have a corny side, and this track represents a lot of that. The melodies are lush. It’s not heavy, but it doesn’t need to be.

Angry Freak – Thirst: This track is surprisingly long and technical. The band might have a goofy name, but they can certainly shred their way to your ears. Yet this thing stays short, fast, and fun. Not much else could be asked of something that could be the soundtrack of an indie video game. The riffs are tight, the energy is high, and the whole thing feels like a burst of adrenaline. It’s not going to redefine the genre, but it will make you smile.

Craig Bannerman – Tarry Ye Here: Today is the day of the return, and here we have another track from someone who can actually play his instruments pretty well. Craig Bannerman should get more attention. His technical mix of Death and Black Metal elements is interesting, to say the least. It’s also hard at times not to feel this is purely an instrumental project. The guitars do most of the talking, and they speak clearly and confidently.

Tamas Vargas – Phone Mania: Yes, we stick to the old friends again. Imagine a 2000s Dad Rock band, but it’s proper heavy and it doesn’t suck. Well, this is probably the closest we get to it—deep vocals with all that blasting happening in the background. Good for those who can’t endure brutal vocals but still want something with weight and energy.
