Time for the section that pays the bills.
Aviditas – House of Farewell: Well, I wasn’t sure whether to cover this because it was almost out of our scope. However, if you feel like listening to weird techno Hard Rock, this should be on your list. It’s a strange blend of electronic beats and heavy guitars that somehow works better than it has any right to. Not for everyone, but definitely for the curious.
Laconia – Brothers of the Sea: This is like Sabaton if it was a low-budget band with a thing for synths. Okay, it’s a joke, but now you know you’re supposed to expect something funny and catchy. The choruses are huge and it’ll make you feel hangover.
Ültra Raptör – Spinosaurus: You might not recall, but we reviewed Ültra Raptör‘s last album. So I’m not sure why we have these guys here again, when their music has speed, power, and solid songwriting. It’s Power/Speed Metal that I can respect. It’s a tribute to the glory days of the genre. No complaints here.
HKSPK – Heimkehr: It’s a mystery to me why these guys wanted another shout-out, but I’ll do my job anyway. Raw and potato-recorded Blackened Death that reminds me of the old days of the genre when there was money for nothing. The production is rough and the riffs are nasty. You know what’s up.
Johnny Painmen – Be Quiet: Short and Thrashy is what this track has for us. Yet it has those Punk pseudo-vocals that some of you seem to like. The production probably is the most solid part of this humble thing. It’s not going to change your life, but it might make you nod your head for a few minutes.
Funus – Still Circling Downwards: Emotional and almost Post-Rock-like, this dreamy and melancholic track isn’t usually what we get in this section, but its atmosphere and sadness remind me that not everything is violence here. It’s a slow burn that rewards patience, with melodies that linger long after the track ends. A welcome change of pace.
