Honestly, if you name your band Vomitorial Corpulence, I think you’ve missed a golden opportunity. You could’ve called yourselves Chunky Puke instead. Anyway, you can probably tell that this is a Grindcore album, which means you’re about to get punched in the mouth until your gums start bleeding. No surprises here. But I do wonder whether this thing, Martyrdomical Symphonanthem, is actually any good. Let’s find out.
Bar bar bar, blast beat, blaaahhh! That’s pretty much what we’ve got here. Unforgiving, punishing tracks that start and finish so quickly that I barely have time to process one sonic assault before the next monstrosity kicks down the door. I’m not sure there’s a theme here, but given how over-the-top the track titles are, I assume it’s nothing particularly peaceful or romantic. Unless you keep bodies in your fridge. In that case, this is your soundtrack!
The production is much more lo-fi than I expected. At times, it sounds like old-school Death Metal, but these guitars sound like they were recorded on an iPhone, which suggests otherwise. This could easily find its way into our Trve Kvlt section if it were a little less technical, because at least there’s something resembling musicianship here. It’s hard to doubt that these guys can play just about anything. But the real question is: can they write songs that make my blood boil, or will they merely make my butt sneeze?

Now, I’m a little biased here, since I’m not the biggest Grindcore guy. Still, I love some Benighted, so I’m not exactly a stranger to having my eardrums violently assaulted. Having said that, Martyrdomical Symphonanthem is basically a series of brutal explosions, and that’s about it. The tracks come and go so quickly that I honestly struggle to tell them apart. It’s a blender full of heavy riffs and disgusting lyrics, but, much like a trip to Taco Bell, everything enters and exits at alarming speed without leaving much of an impression. That’s pretty much how I feel about this album. It’s well executed, sure, but it isn’t exactly blowing my mind.
So, if you’re a Grindcore fanatic (what is wrong with you? Get some help!), Vomitorial Corpulence might be the perfect addition to your rancid collection, right next to the empty beer cans and the imaginary friends who still tolerate you. But if, like most of us, you want your violence to serve some kind of purpose beyond making your colon question its existence, you might find yourself getting melted into a mushy paste of decomposed fast food.
