Blood Countess – Imperatrix Saguinis

Metalcatto

You wouldn’t be crazy to think that Blood Countess has a blood fetish. I mean, the album is called Imperatrix Sanguinus. Wasn’t it easier to just use a self-title? It’s also obvious there’s some infatuation with royalty. Anyway, if you haven’t noticed already, this is an old school Black Metal album that promises everything the style represents, and yet I’m cautious as usual.

Wrang – Verwording

Metalcatto

You know what we haven’t done in a while? Reviewed some Black N’ Roll. Granted, it’s not the most common release in the mailbox, but that only made me more curious about what Wrang‘s Verwording had to offer. Will it be more static noise, or will it give us a great ride into tribulation? I assume it’s about the sea this time, because my Dutch is at a coma patient level. So let’s start.

Asenheim – Elbenblut

Metalcatto

Can you believe that this is Asenheim‘s tenth album? I honestly can’t. Why haven’t we heard more about these musicians before now? Is it their marketing team’s fault? Is it our fault? I don’t know, but it’s time to try to fix that by reviewing Elbenblut. Besides, it’s been a while since we reviewed some Black/Folk—yesterday, technically—and you people can’t seem to get enough of this stuff. Let’s face it, you’re all a little geeky deep down. Shall we begin?

Sarastus – Agony Eternal

Ixone

Ever ended up in that situation when you know an album is going to be good just because the band’s discography is flawless? If you haven’t I only have one word to say to you: Sarastus. Despite it appearing like my bias for Finnish Black Metal is doing the talking again (I am too stubborn to just stop pretending that I don’t start drooling when I see that exact tag), I think that the response to their latest record, Agony Eternal indicates that I haven’t lost the plot quite completely.

Beleth’s Trumpet – Chapel of Bones

Metalcatto

Sometimes I wonder what Atmospheric Black Metal would sound like if anyone actually knew or cared how to produce it. Enter Beleth’s Trumpet‘s Chapel of Bones, a band seemingly interested in doing old-school Black Metal that doesn’t sound like French fries fried out of existence. It also happens to be a Finnish band, and despite my best efforts to find some drama, it remains properly mysterious. Time will tell if that’s a good or bad thing. Anyway, let’s dive into this swirling mass of malevolence and static noise.
