Hi there! It’s been a while since we acknowledged some decent EPs, and I guess it’s time we did—even if it’s against my better judgment. That said, we’ve actually got a pair of bands today that could fit well on the same playlist (just pretend you don’t have one of those on a predatory streaming service). So let’s get down to business. We’re not getting any younger, and I’ve got interns to boss around, as usual.

It’s time to give some love to the EPs that lately have captured my undivided attention – no small feat considering the avalanche of promos we get monthly (don’t worry, we’ll still check out your garage or restroom band, because why the heck not?). In this era of fast-food content consumption and pointless artistic injustice, let’s appreciate the beauty of brevity. Onward!

Continuing the barrage of releases this week, we had to consider some upcoming EPs, too. It wasn’t easy to decide, but the sting of regret made me hold onto these two rather than let them fade into oblivion. I gave them a spin or two, or three, and good thing I did—things went from weird to interesting pretty fast. Here are two EPs that might just bring a bit of color back to your bleak life.

When you spend a lot of time reviewing albums, it’s easy to overlook the more modest releases that can still offer quality despite arriving with less fanfare. That’s why I’ve combined two completely different projects in one article, to provide some good or bad publicity to these EPs that reached us without much pretense (see kids? A bit of humility can take you far in life). So, let the mayhem begin!

Today, we’re going to be talking a lot about space. I can’t recall when in my life this happened, but now every sub-genre of Metal needs to have a handful of bands that explore space from all sorts of directions. So, what better way to celebrate our obsession with this nerdy subject than by reviewing LanzerRath / Shroud of Despondency‘s latest Split? It almost escaped me, but I managed to catch the promo before it withered away in my email box. So, shall we?
