Vortex Sutra – Noumenon

Metalcatto

I can count on one hand the times an instrumental album has received a full review at MER Industries. It’s nothing personal. We just don’t get too many submissions of this kind, and even fewer from a promoter or label. The truth is, you customers love music where someone just shouts at you constantly. However, Vortex Sutra is a Prog Rock band that is pretty different from what we usually cover. Its album Noumenon surprised me and in a way challenged my reviewer’s habits. That’s good, right? Let’s find out.

Meteora – Broken Mind

Vicky

Arguably my favorite part of writing about Metal bands is discovering hidden gems in the scene. Bands, labels, albums, songs, musicians, demos, EPs—anything for that matter. Coming across new acts in this vast musical territory is always a thrill (at least for me, that is). After taking a short break from exploring new albums to rediscover some of my all-time favorite tracks, I’m back today with a Symphonic/Power/Gothic Metal mini-album that deserves attention: Broken Mind by Meteora. I first heard about these Hungarian Metal masters last year (yes, I mean 2024—for those reading this in 3075, please save me a seat in the flying machine!), when they played at one of my favorite festivals, Symphonic Metal Echoes in Alba Iulia, Transylvania, Romania.

Watch My Dying – Egyenes Kerőlő

I promise I have no Central/Eastern European agenda this year—it’s just what makes sense to review as the quiet month of January moves along. Watch My Dying is a Hungarian band with a long career, and at first, I wasn’t sold on the idea of listening to some strange industrial experiment. But Egyenes Kerőlő caught my attention when I read in the promo that they had collaborated with Thy Catafalque. You know we love anything that project puts out. Still, I wasn’t expecting a bootleg of that band—I wanted something more!
