You thought we were done with the long reviews for 2025. Think again, because there are still a few surprises left! HOLOGRAMAH is basically Chilean Black Metal royalty, which is why I gave it a chance in our crazy tight schedule. Abyssus.Versus.Versiculos. (yes, insane name I know) is supposed to keep showing that this part of the world can produce Black Metal that can compete with the colder places, but am I being too hopeful or is there real greatness here? Let’s find out!
Abyssus is one of the closest reconstructions of the Icelandic school I’ve seen in a while. Tormented, deep, abrasive. You feel trapped in some kind of endless storm, but with the difference that the tracks aren’t 15 minutes long. They come in with a fury and decadence that feels almost thrashy, but that’s only in spirit because this thing just dives into a pit of agony and despair faster than you doomscroll on TikTok. It’s like being noticed by a creature so horrible, we can’t fully comprehend it. That’s the kind of vibe you want your heavy album to have.
Despite the guitars and drums being the backbone of everything happening in Abyssus, the vocals are probably the most particular thing here. They’re disgusting—in the right sense of the word. They sound as if someone is gargling their own blood. It’s not what you’d expect from the style. The album flies by quickly; since there are no interludes or substantial changes, it sticks to the formula so much that it felt like one long beatdown. You’ll have to decide if that’s good or bad, but there are things that were clearly less appealing to me.

I’ll be frank: that intro and outro track almost ruined it for me. The first one answered the question, “What would happen if my drums were half farts?” Well, now you know. And the last track, as ominous as it felt, overstayed its welcome significantly. The rest of the album is a blast, so it’s a shame that the two most important tracks of any album end up being just… weird. Perhaps I lack the patience or sensitivity for such decay, but it was an abrupt change from the rest of the album.
Anyway, HOLOGRAMAH is still an interesting project that promises a lot. I’d keep my eye on it. The talent is undeniable! You can feel the hard work behind this. We just had some aesthetic disagreements (I just don’t get the intro! Help!), but overall, if you miss Misþyrming or Simmara this will make the pain less horrible and won’t test your patience as much. A propos, I should get myself some of those albums. Cheers!
