Mangled Carpenter – Between Blood and Silence

Metalcatto

What does this band have against carpenters? It’s a noble job. Hell, I’d like to be good at woodworking—you can actually make money out of it, not like writing… Anyway, Between Blood and Silence is supposed to uppercut us to the stratosphere, but you know the problem with ultra-heavy albums: they can numb you harder than the news. Let’s enter this slaughterhouse.

Well, this is just like getting beaten up with baseball bats, Casino-style. It’s just brutal passage, breakdown, blasts, repeat. At least the tracks have the kindness to be longer than three minutes, so there are some moments of decompression you could say. However, you won’t get much of a break. This thing will keep drilling into your ears as if there’s no tomorrow. So yes, it’s overall short, but it leaves a lasting impression if you play it loud enough. The intensity never really lets up, and that’s clearly the point.

I know this is some Deathcore and Grindcore hybrid, but something that really got my attention was how industrial the drums feel. That’s not necessarily negative. It gives this inhumane vibe we’re all after in this godless music niche. The overall atmosphere is dirty and chaotic to no avail—ruthless and to the point. The guitars are down-tuned to oblivion, the vocals are pure throat-shredding aggression, and the whole thing feels like being trapped inside a collapsing factory. Okay, I’ve been way too nice with an album that’s trying to put me on a stretcher. It’s time to return the favor.

As with many albums that try to knock your teeth out with a hammer, I end up wondering what to do with things beyond its brutality. The ideas here are straightforward, and there’s little room for experimentation. You’ve listened to this before, so it’s hard to find the most original part of it. Even if it’s competent in execution and the craft is decent, one ends up slightly numb. The formula is effective, but it’s also predictable. There’s no twist, no surprise, no moment where the album steps outside its own shadow.

Alright, we’ve got our brains bashed out. That sounds cute and fun, but with Mangled Carpenter, that’s all you’re going to get. Riffs that offer just violence and insanity—nothing more, nothing less. Keep your expectations realistic, and the album will satisfy you. But if you want something fancier, then this is the wrong ride for you. It’s a one-trick pony, but at least that trick is executed with conviction. Sometimes that’s enough. Sometimes you just want to turn your brain off and let the noise take over. And for that purpose, Between Blood and Silence does exactly what it says on the tin. No more, no less.
